My husband is a 100% disabled veteran and the Va takes care of his medical needs but he also get Social Security that gives him Medicare. I was told today that he needed another supplimental insurance in order to get Sliver Sneakers.

Way to thank a veteran for serving his country , a man that fought for his country for the freedom you all have to work in this country . His doctors want him to get in a pool because of his condition ,so that it is not taxing on his joints.

I am very disappointed on how you treat veterans. I will be sharing this social media.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Silver Sneakers Pros: Unable to use without buying additional insurance.

I'm in the same boat, 100% Disability Rating and have to pay for my YMCA Membership as Medicare A & B and TFL do not cover. I didn't realize I would get screwed in with my health insurance after a 24 yr military career.

If you have an advantage Medicare insurance which you may with the have to pay for it screws the other ones up and you're constantly on the phone other insurances. This sucks!

why cant we?

These โ€œAdvantageโ€ Medicare programs are discriminatory to say the least. We live in a rural community 80 miles from a metropolitan area and are not eligible for Advantage plans.

If the powers that be really cared about Sr. Citizens, then the Silver Sneaker program would be offered freely to ALL Medicare recipients.

Going thru the same thing. No support for disabled veterans at all.

Please let all veterans know about this My husband is 100% disabled Please contact local VA & enroll in their free live online classes. Once enrolled they send a email link for every class you choose.

They have lots of great classes.

We participate using PC. Whatโ€™s nice is there is 2 way communication & you can choose to cut off your camera anytime & mute your microphone.

Why are you giving Silver Sneakers a 1 rating for this? It is not their decision as to who offers it.

You should be contacting your insurance company.

Medicare cannot offer it. It costs money to offer it, so where would they get the funding?

I think you seem to lack reading comprehension ditz, they are not saying that they do not provide the Silver Streaks program. They are saying it is not their decision as to who orders it. This is up to the insurance company.

as another vet(71), I agree, and something like silver sneakers would likely mean less medical conditions ... and less time at the VA Hospital ...

I too am 100% total disability and 100% unemployability do to serving in the Vietnam War and all my medical, dental and pharmacy is paid by VA. I also have Medicare part A & B so it is disgusting that I cannot get Silver Sneakers.

in all fairness to SS; SS is a benefit of SOME insurance plans. The V/A does have their own gyms and programs for veterans.

Some also have swimming pools for vets to use; but I haven't heard of any (non-governmental) gyms or fitness clubs that are free to veterans. The SS business model is that they are paid by the insurance plans to operate their classes. Perhaps we should petition our congressional representatives to have the V/A negotiate a contract with SS. There would still be areas where SS is non-existant.

I am also a veteran; and I have service-connected disability.

Sooo, some things are provided by V/A, others are not, as determined by the wisdom of US congress. Else get a private insurance plan that includes SS.

Not all VA medical centers have gyms or pools available for the veterans to use for the betterment of their health. My brother (living in a VA nursing home) would use a YMCA pool free UNTIL the govt decided it would NOT pay for this benefit. Such a shame as water therapy is the best exercise for a paraplegic.

I am also a 100%disabled 75 year old veteran, on SSI and the VA is my sole medical provider. Like your husband I also do not qualify for Silver Sneakers
